Community Benefits Agreements

Stakeholders: Government Authorities, Developers, and Communities develop a shared understanding of who should benefit, why and how to provide benefits, and what the impacts are to collaboratively develop appropriate community benefit agreements.

Who should benefit? Beneficiary communities can be defined by:

  • Locations such as a town or island

  • Interests/Practices: fisherman, sailors

  • Groups adversely impacted: fishermen

  • Organizations: energy cooperatives, environmental groups

  • Other attributes: demographic characteristics

  • Recognize hosts

  • Account for impact

  • Compensate for specific losses
